ഒരിക്കൽ നേരം ഇരുട്ടിയപ്പോൾ പിതാവ് വീട്ടിലേക്ക് കയറി വന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ക്ഷീണിതനാണ്. അച്ഛനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അഞ്ചു വയസ്സുള്ള മകൻ പതിവ് പോലെ കുസൃതികൾ ചോദിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.

"അച്ഛാ, അച്ഛന്റെ ഒരു മണിക്കൂർ ജോലിക്കുള്ള ശമ്പളം എത്രയാ?"

"അതൊക്കെ നീ എന്തിനാണ് അറിയുന്നത്?" അച്ഛന് ദേഷ്യം വന്നു. എങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. "20 ഡോളർ."

"എങ്കിൽ അച്ഛനെനിക്കൊരു 10 ഡോളർ കടം തരുമോ?"

ഈ ചോദ്യം കൂടെ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അച്ഛന് ദേഷ്യം കടുത്തു. "പോയി കിടുന്നുറങ്ങാ താണ് നിനക്ക് നല്ലത്. അല്ലെങ്കിൽ എന്റെ അടുത്ത് നിന്ന് നീ അടി വാങ്ങിക്കും."
