ഒരിക്കല്‍ ഒരാള്‍ ഒരു ചിത്രശലഭം അതി ന്റെ പ്യൂപ്പ പൊട്ടി പുറത്തുവരുന്നത് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. ആദ്യം ഒരു ചെ റിയ സുഷിരം പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. പിന്നീട് മണിക്കൂറുകള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം ചിത്രശലഭം അതിന്റെ തല ഭാഗം വളരെ പ്രയാസ പ്പെട്ടു സുഷിരത്തിലൂടെ പുറത്തെത്തി ച്ചു. പിന്നീട് കുറെ നേരം കാത്തിരുന്നിട്ടും ഒരു പുരോഗതിയും കണ്ടില്ല. ചിത്രശലഭ ത്തിന് പുറത്തുവരാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത വിധം കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയതായി ആയാള്‍ക്ക് തോന്നി. അയാള്‍ അതിനെ സഹായി ക്കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.

അയാള്‍ ഒരു കത്രിക കൊണ്ട് ചിത്രശല ഭത്തിന് പുറത്തുവരാന്‍ പറ്റുന്ന തരത്തി ല്‍ പ്യൂപ്പയുടെ ആവരണം മുറിച്ച് മാറ്റി. ചിതശലഭം വളരെ എളുപ്പത്തില്‍ തന്റെ ചിറകുകള്‍ ഒതുക്കി പുറത്തെത്തി. ചിത്രശലഭം ചിറകുകള്‍ വിടര്‍ത്തി പറ ന്നുയരുന്നത് കാണാന്‍ അയാള്‍ കാ ത്തിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ നിരാശയായിരുന്നു ഫലം. ചിത്രശലഭത്തിന് ചിറകുകള്‍ വിടര്‍ത്താന്‍ കഴിയാതെ ശിഷ്ടകാലം ജീവിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു.

ചിത്രശലഭം ഒരു ചെറിയ സുഷിരത്തിലൂ ടെ പുറത്തേക്ക് വരുമ്പോള്‍ അതിന്റെ ശരീര ഭാഗത്തില്‍ നിന്നു ചിറകുകളിലേ ക്ക് തള്ളപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ദ്രാവകമാണ് അതിന്റ്റെ ചിറകുകള്‍ വിടര്‍ത്താന്‍ സഹായിക്കുന്നത് എന്ന പ്രകൃതി തത്വം മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ ആയാള്‍ക്ക് സാധിച്ചില്ല.
